Authentic Mode is one of the hidden modes in Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered. In this mode, the graphics and controls of the game are modified to give off an “old-school” vibe.
Gameplay
To access the Authentic Mode, the player has to put in the code “10181996” in the You Can Think Pad in one of the game styles: Classic or Party Style. This code can be found in Baldi's Office. Then, the main menu will reappear, and every game afterwards will be in this mode. To disable this mode, the player can reinput the code in the You Can Think Pad or restart the game.
With Authentic Mode activated, the following changes will be applied to the game:
- The border of the screen will be larger to resemble a TV screen.
- The visuals of the game will be significantly degraded, with a lower frame rate and even more pixelated graphics.
- To look around, the player must use the “strafe left” and “strafe right” action keys; to start or stop running, they have to toggle on and off the lever of the Staminometer.
- To use items, they must face the direction that they want to use the item in and then click on the item.
Trivia
- This mode has already been teased vaguely on the Twitter account of the game's creator.
- Based on the code "10181996," Authentic Mode is a reference to the educational game Sonic's Schoolhouse. This game is one of the main inspirations behind the Baldi's Basics series and was released on October 18, 1996.
- The border frame of this mode has the same inventory from both Baldi's Basics Classic and Baldi's Basics Birthday Bash.
- The border and controls of this mode can be a reference to the first-person shooter game DOOM. The face of the game's protagonist glances side-to-side, which is similar to Baldi's head movement.
- There is an unused text for this mode in the game file, which contains: “Experience Baldi's Basics like it was really released in 1999!”
